"Wish I May" was established in Greene County by Lisa Slavens in 2011. In 2014 it expanded into Christian County and in 2017 started serving the children of Stone andTaney County.
Wish I May works with community agencies and schools to determine children who will not be receiving anything for their birthday and volunteers work together with the school and the child's parents to pack a birthday bag according to that child's specific interest, hobbies, favorite color, etc.
We are a local Optimist International Club and our focus is to help develop activities and services independently as well as along side other civic organizations that will further OI's goals to help benefit children in our local community
In addition to owning the Westside Optimist Baseball fields our club raises money and volunteers to assist the efforts of other organizations like the Springfield Junior Police Academy, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Ozarks, The Kitchen's Youth Programs, and Wish-I-May to name a few
Our annual fundraising activities include the Westside Super Bowl-A-Thon in January, the BIG Hole Golf Tournament in June, THE Main Event Trivia night in the fall as well as the Big Brother's Beerfest Poker Night in November.
We are continuing to grow our membership and look for other opportunities to help bring out the best in children in the Ozarks.
We are always looking for new partners to help grow our membership and outreach in the community. Individuals can help by joining us at any of our events or even becoming a member. Your business can help through your sponsorship and donations or consider becoming a Friend of Optimist and have your business represented throughout the year with your annual membership.
You are welcome to join us at our next club meeting‐‐check out calendar for current meeting location and times.
